Parts of Chennai got moderate to heavy spells of overnight rains as the IMD Observatory in Meenambakkam recorded 47 mm, most of which fell in an one hour spell around the midnight hours.  In contrast Nungambakkam recorded only 3 mm with the thunderstorms giving better rains to the Southern suburbs. The spectacular Thunderstorm season for the interiors of Tamil Nadu & adjoining parts of Peninsular India continues to chug along merrily.  As though bonded by Fevicol neither of them wants to leave its grip on the others with yesterday being no different as many areas of South India and interiors in particular recorded good rains. As West Interior Tamil Nadu enjoys the best spell of rains this year for the past few days, Coimbatore broke the all time record for highest monthly rainfall during September set way back in 1972.  As we write this Coimbatore AP has recorded 88 mm till 5:30 AM taking the September tally to 254 mm breaking the 218 mm recorded in 1972.
