Rains to continue over Peninsular India

Weather Update
Reading Time: 3 minutes

After a lull of few days rains returned over many parts of Chennai and suburbs yesterday with light to moderate rains happening during the morning hours. In a way these rains reminded of Northeast Monsoon when most of the rains happen during the early morning hours. But one should remember these pseudo Northeast Monsoon type of rains happened because of the weak LPA that persists off the coast of AP and under it influence most of Peninular India has been seeing some rains. Southwest Monsoon though is still prevailing and its withdrawal is likely to be stalled for a few days under the influence of this LPA.

Weather models expect the current Bay circulation to move NW as a weak remnant circulation towards the western parts of Central India before fading away. Consequent to the circulation many places in Gangetic plains of UP recorded good rains yesterday and may see rains continue for another day or two keeping the monsoon dynamics. Once the circulation fades away towards the middle of next week we can see some traction in the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon. While the withdrawal may have been remained slow so far but Southwest Monsoon may finally complete its withdrawal with a delay of just a few days.

In the meanwhile looking at how things are evolving rains are likely to continue for the few days over many parts of Peninsular India under the influence of the circulation currently off the AP coast. The heaviest spell of rains today may happen over the interior parts of Peninsular India around parts of Rayalaseema, Telangana, adjoining parts of Karnataka and some parts of Marathwada with few places likely to come under fairly heavy rains over the next 24 hours. For some of these places this spell of rains over the next few days may be the final spell of Southwest Monsoon.

Coastal places along Tamil Nadu may once again see light to moderate rains as a trailer to the upcoming Northeast Monsoon season. Rains will mostly persist during the wee hours and early morning hours just like NEM time. Chennai and suburbs are likely to see rains during the morning hours which might play spoilsport for those going to school and offices.
