In a trend continuing for the last few days Rains in Chennai, yesterday also saw many parts of the City receive spells of rains with one or two heavy spells during the day at a few places. Madhavaram in North Chennai recorded 20 mm till 4:30 AM
Northeast Monsoon continues to be active over North Coastal Tamil Nadu with Chennai and surrounding areas receiving another day of moderate to heavy rains at many places. Kelambakkam (Hindustan University) still seeing the after effects of the extreme rains last Sunday saw 48 mm record till 5:30 in the morning.
In a continuing relationship with Chennai rains occurred at many places of the city last night. The IMD AWS in Nungambakkam recorded 29 mm rains and the observatory in Chennai Airport recorded 36 mm rains till 5:30 in the morning. The COMK weather station in Anna Nagar received 38.1 mm rains till the morning.
After lashing North Tamil Nadu for the last few days thanks to a very active Northeast Monsoon South AP particularly Chittoor and Nellore districts came under the attack of heavy rains yesterday and day before. With Nellore district in particular seeing very heavy rains at many places under the influence of the Well Marked Low which has now become an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation.
