Last evening saw a few places in South Chennai receive rains with places around Meenambakkam, Madipakkam getting fairly heavy spells for some time. The Airport observatory received 5 mm rains during this period while Taramani received 3 mm. Places like Adyar, Nungambakkkam also received one or two spells during this time. Slightly earlier to this spell parts of North Chennai around Minjur / Ennore received some rains with Ennore Port recording 3 mm rains.
Southwest Monsoon Update: The Depression over East Central India intensified yesterday into a Deep Depression and now lies over Maharashtra. It has provided much needed rains to many places in the state. These rains are expected to continue today as well with parts of Gujarat expected to receive spells of heavy rains as well as the Depression moves in a NW direction. In the meanwhile an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation has formed off the Thailand coast in Andaman Seas thanks to the remnant pulse of Tropical Cyclone Vamco. This could potentially trigger next set of monsoon rains over East India.
Peninsular India would slowly loose the influence of the Depression as rains would be confined to the extreme northern parts of Peninsular India. West Coast will continue to benefit from lower level moisture drag with heavy spells in one or two places expected. Rest of South India would be fairly dry with higher than normal temperatures showing up at most places.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update:Yesterday saw Madurai clock 40°C as Tamil Nadu is going through a very warm phase of Second summer, Nagapattinam was not far behind with 38.9°C. These conditions are expected to continue as today also extreme heat conditions are expected to prevail over North Coastal TN, Delta region and in South TN around the Madurai region. Isolated thunderstorms may be possible in a few areas of North Coastal TN towards the evening.
