Southwest Monsoon vigorous over West Coast

The first active spell of Southwest Monsoon is underway over the West Coast of India.  The entire West coast is getting widespread rains with the Konkan Coast bearing the brunt of rains.  A lot of places have received in excess of 100 mm rains with Santa Cruz in Mumbai receiving almost 25 cms rains in the last 24 hours. On the other side of the Peninsula as well rains are battering Andhra Coast with a widespread rains in East Godavari and adjacent districts.

With an LPA parked off the Andhra Coast and a trough and an embedded UAC parked near Maharashtra coast Southwest Monsoon has got double impetus.  This has resulted in some very good possibility of heavy rains over both coasts of Peninsular India.  The stretch between Karwar to Mumbai will be getting extremely heavy rains over the next 24 to 48 hours.  A few places could receive rainfall in excess of 20 cms over Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka coast.

Similarly Andhra & Telangana also are expected to receive wide spread rains with few places receiving heavy rains.  Interior Karnataka and a few places in North TN could receive Isolated rains with a few heavy spells in between.

As far as Chennai is concerned it is expected to be a cloudy day with possibly isolated spells of light rains.  All in all it is expected to be another pleasant day.
