Northeast Monsoon Onset expected today

Last night saw fairly heavy rains lash many parts of South Chennai with many places South of the Airport receiving spells of rains. Places in OMR & ECR received sustained spells of rains around 2:00 AM with the automatic weather station of weather blogger Raijinweather at Thaiyur recording 28 mm rains after midnight till 4:00 AM. Similarly the Tamil Nadu Agri University weather station at Thiruporur recorded 20 mm rains till 3:00 AM.  There are firm indication Northeast Monsoon Onset could be today thanks to rains in many coastal areas around Central TN

With the firm support of Easterlies the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu have started getting rains from yesterday.  Areas between Cuddalore & Nagapattinam received moderate rains from last evening with rains in one or two places continuing well into the night.

With the Low Pressure Area still parked east of Sri Lanka Delta region around Nagapattinam could receive another good day of Northeast Monsoon rains today as well.  The coastal areas between Pondicherry and Vedaranyam stand a good chance of fairly heavy spells of rains at times.

Aided by the Easterlies and the LPA the convective clouds present in Bay of Bengal would be moved towards the Indian Coasts as the day progresses bringing in rainfall prospects for Coastal Tamil Nadu.  North Coastal Tamil Nadu could see spells of rains during the day with one or two heavy spells on 28th morning.  Rains are expected to pick up intensity as the LPA makes a slow NW movement.  29th early  morning could see heavier spells of rains at more places.

Chennai Weather Update: Chennai could wake up to rainy skies at a few places with Cloudy start to the day almost all across. There is a firm possibility of some rains around morning at many places.  Day time temperature could be around 31°C.  As the day progresses late evening / night could see rains return once again with heavy spells expected in a few places.
