Northeast Monsoon continues to be active over Coastal Tamil Nadu with many places recording rains yesterday. In particular the districts of Chennai, Thootukudi, Cuddalore, Thanjavur recorded moderate showers at many places. After seeing on and off spells of rains right through the first half of the day Chennai has been seeing spells of rains once again in the morning that is expected to continue till about 10 AM in the morning.
The well marked low pressure in Bay of Bengal is approximate about 800 kms to the East of Chennai. Over the last 12 hours or so the movement has slowed down indicating a possible intensification and possible change in direction. Models indicate a possible movement towards Northwest as the storm intensifies into a possible depression later in the day today.
In the meanwhile Coastal Tamil Nadu will continue to receive rains today as well like yesterday with the spell of rains happening during the early part of the day along the coast and subsequently moving into the interior areas. One or two places could receive spells of heavy rains as at times slow movement of the thunderstorms could give intense spell of rains at isolated places.
Chennai is likely to see cloudy conditions prevail today with intermittent spells of rains during the first half of the day. The rains could possibly ease around 10 / 11 AM.
