Low Pressure in Bay to revive Southwest Monsoon in E.India

Last Night saw rains in many places of Chennai with heavier spells of rains recorded in the Northern Suburbs.  Madhavaram recorded 24 mm of rains while Puzhal recorded 15 mm of rains.   The IMD Automatic Weather Station in Nungambakkam recorded 3 mm rains.

Southwest Monsoon Update:  In what is a rare event during Southwest Monsoon 2015 twin disturbances have evolved with the formation of LPA off the Myanmar Coast while the Depression over West India continues on its westward track.  Thanks to the depression the parched Marathwada region has got very heavy rains for the last couple of days.  Now the rains are expected to shift to Gujarat region & Kutch, parts of Rajasthan & MP.  Rains are expected to slow down in Maharashtra while parts of the Konkan coast could get isolated spells of rains. East & Northeast India could get back into rainy days once again thanks to the LPA that has developed off the Myanmar coast.  Parts of Nagaland, Mizoram could get occasional heavy spells of rains while most parts of Odisha, West Bengal could start to get rains from today under the influence of the LPA.


Down South Coastal Kerala could get some heavy spells of rains as lower level moisture incursion happens from Arabian Sea to Bay of Bengal.  In what could be possibly the heaviest spells of rains this month so far a few places in the High Ranges could get very heavy spells of rains.  Coastal AP near Vishakapatnam, Srikakulam & areas adjoining Odisha could get some heavy spells of rains under the influence of the LPA.


Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies over most parts of TN as the temperatures are expected to come down a bit from the extreme heat conditions over the last couple of days.  Places around Madurai could possibly still suffer high day time temperature of around 38°C but most places would be lesser by a couple of degrees compared to the previous days.   Towards late evening possible thunderstorms might provide rains over a few areas of North TN with some places in the Delta region around Thanjavur could get some isolated spells of rains.

Chennai Weather Update: Pleasant Morning till about 10 AM with occasional passing showers in one or two areas, partly cloudy skies later on with temperatures expected to be around 34° – 35°C.  Late evening / night thunderstorms may bring rains to many parts of the city.  Occasional Heavy spells in a few areas likely.
