In keeping with the trend for the last few days yesterday also saw many parts of Interior Tamil Nadu record convective thunderstorms late in the evening, with Salem & Erode districts the biggest beneficiaries of these thunderstorms. While Salem got rains in the evening parts of Erode received the rains a few hours later with places like Bhavani, Perundurai etc receiving a very good spell of rains.
While today also the rains are expected to happen over the interiors they are likely to be restricted to mostly the Western and Southern parts of Tamil Nadu with the North Interior places possibly seeing lesser chance of evening rains. Coimbatore / Nilgiris / Dindigul districts could end up getting the better spells of rains expected to happen today.
Today’s theme though could be heat as numerical models indicate an increase in the temperatures over large parts of Tamil Nadu. Numerical Models indicate the impact of Sea breeze could be limited thereby making it a hotter than normal day for even coastal areas with places like Chennai in line for a day time high of about 36 / 37°C while the airport observatory could inch closer to 39 / 40°C. The interior places will once again see an increase in day time temperatures which is expected to peak on Tuesday in terms of temperature.
