The Sizzling Sunday saw the hottest day recorded in many parts of Tamil Nadu as 9 places record 40°C. Tiruttani joined the 43°C gang yesterday as it scorched to its hottest day of the year. In what could be a shape of things when the Westerlies dominate the landscape Chennai Nungambakkam almost touched 40°C while Meenambakkam not only crossed 40 but comfortably made it up to 41.3°C. Similarly rest of coastal observatories like Nagappattinam, Karaikal, Pondicherry, Cuddalore all ended recording nearly 6 / 7 degrees higher temperatures than Saturday.
In the meanwhile Cyclone Maarutha has made landfall over the Myanmar coast and is expected to undergo a rapid decline from now onwards. It made landfall over the rugged Arakkan mountain region about 150 kms to the South of Sitwe around midnight and was a weak tropical cyclone at the time of landfall.
Tamil Nadu is likely to see another hot day today as well with similar pattern as yesterday seen, Coastal Areas & North Interior TN seeing some of the highest anomalies along with parts of South Tamil Nadu. We are likely to see another day of many 40°C with a few places recording around 42°C. A repeat of the near 40 & 41 for Chennai Nungambakkam & Meenambakkam respectively looks less likely though the temperatures in both the places will possibly be around 100°F and thereabouts.
Yesterday saw isolated rains in the interior places bringing in some relief to the people who were suffering from sweltering heat. Today also we are likely to see some rains along the Western Ghats and parts of South Interior Karnataka along with adjoining parts of West Interior Tamil Nadu. In particular parts of Mysore / Madikeri / Hassan district could see one or two places get heavy spells of rains.
