Active Northeast Monsoon continues rainy spell for Coastal Districts

With an active Northeast Monsoon yesterday saw many places in the coastal districts get rains.  The IMD AWS in Nungambakkam got about 4 cms of rains due to the short intense spells that hit parts of Chennai right through the day.  Taramani in the southern suburbs got 29 mm while Chembarambakkam got about 34 mm which could reflect in today’s water flow into Adyar river.

Northeast Monsoon Update:  The low pressure over Bay of Bengal now lies over parts of Sri Lanka in Southwest bay continue to keep Northeast Monsoon in an active phase with most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu continuing to get spells of rains for the last few days.  With this low pressure making a slow progress towards Arabian Sea the rains would continue to be there for most parts of Coastal Districts particularly the region south of Pondicherry would continue to see heavy rains at times over the next few days.

Rainfall Update (Meteorological Day 5th December – valid till 8:30 AM, 6th Dec.) Coastal Areas south of Mahabalipuram will receive fairly widespread rains with one or two places in the Delta region between Chidambaram & Nagappattinam receiving heavy rains.  Similarly there is some chance of heavy rains in one or two places around Rameswaram / Thoothukudi region.  Parts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli & Tiruchirappalli districts are likely to receive spells of heavy rains at times.

Chennai Weather Update  (Meteorological Day 5th December – valid till 8:30 AM, 6th Dec.) Chennai to see partly cloudy skies with another day when mostly the early part of the day could see rains stay away from us.  It appears towards late evening / middle of the night most areas could receive spells of rains with one or two heavy spells during this time.
