Time and tide waits for none is a very famous saying. Seasons also wait for none. As Earth continues to rotate and revolute day & night and seasons keep changing. Yesterday Madurai AP recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C. This is the first instance of an IMD station in Tamil Nadu hitting the 37°C mark for the first time in 2026. In a way we can possibly say its a precursor to Interior Peninsular India flipping to summer mode.
A couple of weeks back in this post mentioned about how West coast flips first followed by Interior Peninsular India. Stations along the Peninsular West coast has been the hottest in the Indian sub continent for the past couple of weeks. Weather models indicate the baton is will now be passed to the interior areas gradually.
Sub seasonal outlooks indicate most parts of the Indian sub continent to see above normal temperatures. Interior areas of Peninsular India may see afternoon temperatures climb up a couple of degrees above normal. This could mean interior Tamil Nadu and parts of South TN as well will start seeing the fip to summer get activated. With the effect of the WML likely to fade from today most places in the region will see dry weather. Satellite image also indicates the arrival of drier weather conditions.
Some places along the Ghats of South TN and places in Kerala which may see thunderstorm activity. But overall drier weather conditions is likely to prevail across the region. This will bring clearer skies during the afternoon bringing about an increase in maximum temperatures. All in all interior areas of Peninsular India is likely to shift to summer mode from now on. Weather models indicate parts of Rayalaseema may hit 39 / 40°C early next week. But it would be interesting to wait and see if it transpires in real time.
