As most models estimated North Tamil Nadu and adjoining parts of South Interior Karnataka & South Andhra Pradesh saw fairly widespread thunderstorms hit last evening / night bringing moderate rains to many places and heavy rains in a few places as well.
Indicative of how fine margins decide the rainfall pattern places like Puzhal & Madhavaram recorded good spell of rains along with Kolapakkam to the West of Chennai Airport but rest of Chennai city had to be satisfied with light rains / drizzles at best enjoying the lovely Saturday morning. Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Tiruvallur, Krishangiri, Dharmapuri & Kanchipuram district recorded the better spells overall in the state.
The last few days the rainfall pattern has been shuffling around the Peninsular India and in trend with the same pattern today we are likely to see the interior parts of Western Tamil Nadu better placed for the rains. The wind discontinuity which was indicated by models over South AP last evening is seen to be around the Western Ghats today afternoon improving the rainfall prospects for West Interior TN and districts like Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruppur & Nilgiris.
Coastal Areas like Chennai have possibly seen the last of the rainfall from this spell of thunderstorm activity.
