“வான்நின்று உலகம் வழங்கி வருதலால் தான்அமிழ்தம் என்றுணரற் பாற்று” is the first couplet from the Vaan Sirappu Athigaaram of Thirukural that wonderfully captures the essence of how Rains are the Elixir of Life & Earth. This holds more than true for the weather bloggers too as we burn midnight oil trying to figure out where the next spell of rains could come from. Nothing is more satisfying than possibly posting about a spell of rains more so if it comes after a fairly long break.
In what is going to be the first spell of rains for the year 2018 under the influence of the West Moving Low Pressure Area coastal areas of Tamil Nadu could see light to moderate rains hit the shore later in the day. While heavy rains are not going to be the order of the day a few places in between Puducherry & Rameswaram could see spells of heavy rains with thunderstorms later in the night due to convergence triggered instability.
The rains are likely to start later in the day with possibly the first spell of rains hitting the coast around late afternoon / evening in the delta areas. The spells are likely to be light most of the time with moderate intensity at times as the night progresses towards the early morning hours of Wednesday. As the Easterly moisture moves further into the interior areas we could see some spells of rains along the Western Ghats in a few places.
Parts of Chennai especially the South suburbs could see a spell or two of light rains later in the night with possibly better chance tomorrow for the city.
