The last few days have seen Heat take control over Weather in Tamil Nadu with many observatories seeing increase in temperature on a daily basis. The temperature trends indicate the clear spike in day time Max Temperatures over the interior places. Yesterday Tiruchirappalli AP & Madurai AP joined the 40°C club for the year 2018 after the city observatory at Madurai recorded 40°C on Thursday.
North Coastal areas though are relatively better off thanks to the moderation provided by sea breeze though slightly to the interior around 100 kms to the Northwest of Chennai sees hot conditions with the IMD Tirupati observatory at Renigunta recording 40.2°C yesterday.
The last couple of days have seen Central & South TN see hot conditions prevail over day time. Numerical Models indicate today the heat zone will possibly shift slightly to the West. West Interior Districts are likely to see scorching conditions prevail today afternoon with most places recording maximum temperatures in excess of 38 with a few places likely to see temperature touch 40°C. In all probability today Karur Paramathi could join the 40°C as Easterly winds bring land heat across the region.
The classic Wind Convergence / “Veppa Salanam” conditions are likely to prevail along the Western Ghats today as well bringing in some respite though evening thunderstorms in the region late afternoon / evening. Isolated places along the ghats could get some light to moderate rains in the evening. Watrap, Valparai & Nilgiris district could be the best places for some rainfall activity
North Coastal AP & parts of Odisha could see thunderstorm activity due to the meeting of Northerlies & Easterlies during late afternoon.
