Moderately Hot Day Ahead for Tamil Nadu as Interiors enjoy thunderstorms

Reading Time: 2 minutes

As temperatures eased across most parts of Tamil Nadu yesterday the West interior districts of Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris & parts of Salem enjoyed some late evening thunderstorms bringing heavy rains in a few places.  In particular the Peelamedu area of Coimbatore, Coonoor, Harur in Dharmapuri district & Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district enjoyed some heavy spells of rains that lasted a couple of hours or so.

Similarly parts of Tiruppur district around Palladam, Gudimangalam areas recorded good thunderstorms as well.  Down south Theni district recorded isolated rains around the Periakulam area while most of Tamil Nadu was relatively dry on the rain front.  Though it was quite on the rain front rest of Tamil Nadu could heave a sigh of relief as temperatures eased at most places with the maximum temperatures settling closer to normal while places like Trichy & Vellore finally had a sub 40°C maximum temperature after almost two weeks of relentless heat.

On the temperature front today also is likely to be a relatively better day with day time high temperatures staying close to normal and may be below normal in parts of North Interior Tamil Nadu on account of cloudy skies and stronger Easterlies that will moderate the weather for the better part of next couple of days time.  While one or two places could cross 40°C most places will possibly stay below 40 with coastal areas enjoying a  moderately hot but humid day on account of winds from the sea.

On the Rain front it is likely to be another rainy day in the West Coast and interior districts of Tamil Nadu adjoining the Western Ghats areas as a Wind discontinuity persisting at 0.9 kms above sea level continues to influence the atmosphere in Peninsular India.  Isolated places in the High Ranges of Kerala around Munnar / Idukki could get heavy rains while similarly places in Nilgiris & adjoining Wayanad region could also see a spell or two of heavy rains.  Similarly numerical models indicate the forests of Kodayar, Manjolai, Kakkachi along the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli district could see one or two spells of good rains today.
