Isolated Rains to continue in Tamil Nadu

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For the second straight day the South Coastal Tamil Nadu stretch around Pudukottai / Sivaganga districts along with parts of Villupuram district around the Kalvarayan Hills.  Annavaasal in Pudukottai and Melur in Madurai recorded about 3 cms rains while among the major towns Aranthangi & Pudukottai recorded about 1 cm rain yesterday.  As far as Chennai goes only cloudy weather prevailed with the expected wind pattern to bring in rains later in the evening eventually not happening.

Southwest Monsoon 2017 has been going through birth pangs since onset and the trend has been continuing for the last few days as it goes through another stall for the last 3 days under unfavorable developments.  With one fortnight already gone in June most of the rains that have shored up the statistics have been through thunderstorms associated with pre  monsoon weather rather than actual monsoon onset.  Bay of Bengal has spun a fresh Low Pressure off the coasts of Andhra / Odisha which could give an impetus to the Monsoon Progress which has been lagging so far.

On the rain front isolated rains are likely to continue for Tamil Nadu with the Pudukottai / Sivagangai stretch in line for 3rd straight day of Rains aided by convective thunderstorms in the evening.  Thanks to the Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal Coastal AP & adjoining parts of Odisha, Telengana & Chhattisgarh could see moderate to heavy rains in many places. As far as Chennai goes there is some chance of late evening rains though models indicate it to be a spell of light showers with isolated heavy spells in the places to the West of Chennai.
