Yesterday saw many IMD observatories in Tamil Nadu record their hottest day of 2018 with Salem and Madurai AP recording 36.4 & 36.3°C respectively. Dharmapuri was not far behind recording 35.5°C as many places saw temperature notch up a degree or so. Chennai AP recorded 33.7°C crossing 33 degrees for the first time.
Today also similar conditions like yesterday is expected to prevail with many interior places seeing temperatures between 34 – 36°C with Madurai / Salem / Erode areas could possibly see temperatures inch closer to 37°C. The coastal areas though will continue to remain better off under the influence of Easterlies though the lowering humidity seen yesterday in the IMD AWS indicate the weakening of Easterlies.
With February coming to an end in two days time the trend now is slowly shifting towards summer with most numerical models indicating a warmer than normal pattern for most places across Tamil Nadu in the coming week. The temperatures are likely to peak around Friday / Saturday in the current spell before things come back to normal.
Looking at how things are shaping up according to the numerical models places in South Tamil Nadu like Madurai / Tirunelveli / Virudhunagar could see its first fairly hot day around this period with possibly the media favorite mark of 100°F being breached.
