Hot Summer day ahead for Tamil Nadu

Reading Time: 3 minutes

After a gap of couple of days while interior places of North Tamil Nadu like Tiruttani & Vellore saw a reduction in temperature, strangely both Chennai observatories recorded above 40°C with Meenambakkam touching the 41°C mark.  Except for the two Chennai observatories, Tiruttani & Vellore no other station in Tamil Nadu crossed the 40°C mark as near normal temperatures prevailed across the state.

In the meanwhile the Southwest Monsoon is on course for its onset over Kerala as the Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation over Bay of Bengal has triggered the burst of Equatorial Westerlies making it conducive for the Monsoon Onset.  With models estimating this disturbance in Bay to linger for most part of this week things are certainly looking up for a timely onset of Monsoon over Kerala.  Parts of Sri Lanka & adjoining areas of Comorin sea could see the monsoon make its presence in a day or two.

On the temperature front it is likely to be a hot day over Tamil Nadu with possibly slightly above normal temperatures expected to trend over most parts of the state.  Numerical Models indicate possibly a partly cloudy skies over most parts of the state though this is unlikely to impact the temperature by much though the interior parts of North Tamil Nadu could see temperatures in the region of 41 / 42°C like yesterday.

While sea breeze is expected to make its presence felt around mid afternoon for places like Chennai the impact of the same could be weak for a couple of hours making it a hot and humid afternoon.  The city area could see temperature speak around 39 / 40 while the south & western suburbs could see temperatures settle a couple of degrees hotter.

Another day of rains for Interior Peninsular India is on the cards with once again parts of South Interior Karnataka best placed to get these pre monsoon summer thunderstorms.  Thanks to the wind instability arising out of the trough running from Bihar all the way up to Coastal AP thunderstorms could form today as well around the Rayalaseema region as was the case for the last few days.  These thunderstorms are expected to drift into Karnataka under the influence of supporting wind pattern.
