Yesterday saw Chennai city receive spells of rains at many places with few places in the Western suburbs receiving about 4 different spells of rains. The COMK Weather Station in Anna Nagar recorded 35 mm rains till 5:00 AM in the morning while places like Madhavaram, Puzhal, Poonamallee & Chembarambakkam also received good rains through the day.
While the interiors had a few good days this week, coastal TN was fairly quite with only isolated spells of rains at a few places. All this is set to change with possibly the most active spell of Northeast Monsoon expected to kick off from the weekend for Coastal Tamil Nadu. Starting from Saturday the rains are expected to peak closer to Diwali.
Yesterday saw many places in interior Tamil Nadu getting heavy rains. In particular Virudhunagar, Salem & Coimbatore districts received fairly widespread rainfall with a few places getting heavy rainfall. Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district received 67 mm till 9 PM while Manachanallur in Trichy district recorded 52 mm rains.
Northeast Monsoon continues to be active over Tamil Nadu with many places in Interior Tamil Nadu getting moderate rains yesterday. Nagapattinam got more than 5 cms while Trichy & Madurai got 1 and 2 cms till last evening.
