Another day of Isolated Rains in Interior Tamil Nadu likely

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday saw the Western ares of Interior Tamil Nadu witness a good spell of “Veppa Salanam” rains as parts of  Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Coimbatore, Nilgiris districts.  The agro observatory in Coonoor recorded about 44 mm rains last night while Kaveripattinam in Krishnagiri district recorded about 38 mm of rains.  On the temperature front there was a slight easing of temperatures as well with Karur Paramathi the only place to cross 41°C while 5 other places crossed 40°C.

Similar conditions are expected to happen today with temperatures staying closer to normal across most parts of Tamil Nadu with few interior places like Trichy, Madurai, Karur, Vellore crossing 40°C mark while most other  places in the interiors will be hovering below 40 degrees.  Coastal areas will continue to be moderated by the Southerlies & sea breeze that moves in around afternoon bringing respite from the heat.

On the rain front we are likely to see another day of heavy spells along the Tamil Nadu / Karnataka border particularly in the Nilgiris / Chamrajnagar / Sathyamangalam region.  Similarly the Palani hills around Munnar / Kodaikanal could see spell or two of heavy rains.  Overall while heavy spells of rains is likely to be limited to the above mentioned areas more places are in line for receiving these spells of “Veppa Salanam” rains.  Local factors in terms  of uplifting of air parcels, the place falling in the wind confluence at 0.9 kms ASL under the North South Trough impact could play a role in the rainfall pattern.

The rains will possibly close in to about 100 kms to the West of Chennai though with wind support not conducive it will likely be a case of “So Near Yet So Far” for Chennai
